Looking for a unique spot to spend the night in Taipei? Well if you are into cool boutique hotels like me then look no further. This is my review of amba Taipei Songshan hotel.
Close to the Metro (MRT)
The hotel is just a 5 minute walk away from the Songshan MRT station. A bridge connects the hotel with a shopping mall and the station, perfect when it rains because it’s all covered!
Tourist attractions like Taipei 101 Tower and the Ximending area are very easy to reach by MRT.
Foodies, there is a night market around the corner!
Did you hear about stinky tofy? You can’t leave Taipei without trying that dish at the Raohe Night Market, just a 10 minutes walk away. Don’t be put of by the “stinky” tofu, there are loads of other, more yummy sounding bites.
Wait, the lobby has a football table?
The lobby is spacious and gives you the chance to unwind after a long day. You can just relax in the sofas or play a game of table football (check video at the top), while enjoying the views from the massive windows.
Bathtubs with Taipei 101 view
I am a big fan of the cozy boutique minimal style rooms. For a hotel room the size is massive, it’s closer to a loft. Some rooms even have a bathtub with Taipei 101 view, how cool is that?
I was not that lucky but I had no reason to complain, I was waking up with the same view from my bed 😀 And in my video at the top of this post you can see how it looks at night.
Have a Nespresso, borrow an xbox or lego bricks 😮
For the coffee lovers there is a nespresso machine, capsules are refilled daily. No more instant coffee powder disappointment 😛
Forgot something? You can borrow about anything, from lego bricks to yoga mats and even an x-box or play station.
Music Maestro!
Want to play your favorite tunes to relax after a long day of sightseeing? Here you can connect your phone to a custom wooden designed Bluetooth sound system. I even play the same songs when I am back from trips to bring back memories.
How the heck do you open that welcome drink? 😀
Try to open the Ramune drink that’s waiting for you, I bet you will be looking for a few minutes wondering what to do. Too be honest I had to open youtube to figure out how to unlock that marble 😀
After you managed to open your local drink you can enjoy some complimentary local snacks. On a lot of my trips I would just go to a supermarket to try some local products but here you get exposed right away. Thumbs up amba for this attention to detail.
Ginger Body wash, Shampoo and Conditioner
Well my hair color is Ginger, my blog title is Ginger Around The World so this is a perfect match. If you can’t get enough of the refreshing “spicy” amenities in the bathroom. There is a small stand in the lobby where you can buy all kinds of interesting ginger stuff. This city has something with ginger, I even bumped into a ginger shop 🙂
Foodies, you want to take enough time to enjoy this breakfast!
When it comes to breakfast I have been spoiled in a lot of places so you start having certain expectations if you stay in a luxurious hotel. But you did not dissapoint me amba 🙂
I spent more than an hour tasting a variety of Western and Asian style breakfast dishes. As usual I start exploring, the often unknown to me, Asian breakfast items. What’s the point of traveling if you stick with what you are used too? That being said, I also tried the western options and they were well prepared.
One thing you have to try is a freshly made rice roll! Just tell the chef which ingredients to add and he or she will prepare it in front of you! So I would recommend to wake up a bit earlier so you don’t have to rush through this yummy breakfast 🙂
Don’t forget the free slippers when you check out!
I know what you are thinking, shady hotel slippers, eeeuuhr no thank you. Well the amba slippers are pretty funky, the kind you would want to wear for a beach day. So guests are encouraged to take them home 🙂

The room I stayed in (the one in the video) was quite a standard size but bigger than in other hotels in most countries indeed. The loft design also gives a spacious feeling. I asked to see the rooms with Taipei 101 view from the bathtub and those were even bigger 🙂
