I only paid 44 USD for a return ticket from Dubai to Manila with Cebu Pacific so I treated myself (not sponsored) on a business class flight from Manila to Dubai via Muscat on Oman Air. Sipping Laurent Perrier in a full flat bed at 30.000 feet is kind of a nice way to end a holiday 🙂
Subscribe to my Youtube channel, comment, thumbs up, you know the drill 😀 In this post I will review my flight from Dubai to Muscat on Oman Air Business Class a330-300 and show a very affordable route to experience this goodness 18 hours for a reasonable price.
Breakfast in full flat bed seat
The main reason I wanted to fly Oman Air a330 in Business class was because of the spacious seats!
They are better than First Class seats on some other airlines. Oman Air offers a comfy seat that can be transformed into a full flat bed. All seats have aisle access and there is some extra storage space for window seats.
Movie time!
The on board entertainment system is pretty standard and has enough movies to keep you busy. If you are a frequent flyer you might run out of brand new material but I guess most people don’t fly Business just to binge watch the latest movie releases.
Food and drinks a la carte at any time
It’s nice to be able to order something from the menu whenever you are hungry. All the dishes I tried were good but nothing special. To be honest it’s best to judge the airline’s menu when you fly from their home base (Muscat in this case). If your flight starts in another country the airline has to rely on other food suppliers.
Menus in airplanes are not as extensive as in restaurants but I have never been able to order everything from the menu, it’s just way too much food 😀
There is quite some choice if you fancy a drink as well. You wont be hungry or thirsty when you land 😉
Service with a smile
The crew member who took care of me was very friendly and patient (waiting to serve the next dish because I was filming etc). The crew also allowed me to look around in the First Class cabin as it was empty and they even explained all the differences between Business and First, more about that later.
It’s always hard to judge airline crew as it really depends on the specific crew members who are taking care of you. But thumbs up for the crew on MNL-MCT morning flight on 27/02/2018. Thanks for the excellent and friendly service 🙂
Difference between Business Class and First Class
Getting into the First Class cabin if you don’t have a First ticket is hard. But I was lucky that the whole cabin was empty and I was allowed to go and explore.
The crew explained that the bedding in First Class is better and the level of service is much higher. Dining is also at another level with a different menu. There is also a small lounge area up front. Seat wise you get a semi enclosed suite in First with a built in massage system.
In my opinion the Business class seat is quite similar to the First class one. The who big differences are the massage system and the semi enclosed suite doors. So the reason to choose First over Business should be the extra level of service.
How to sip Laurent Perrier in a full flat bed at a reasonable price.
A cheap route to try Oman Air Business class is from Manila (MNL) to Dubai (DXB) which has a stop in Muscat (MCT). Make sure to fly in that direction, if you fly from Dubai to Manila then it’s more expensive.
I paid around 700 EUR for a one way ticket MNL – DXB. The round trip, 18 hours in a full flat bed, is 1000 EUR which is excellent value for money! The only reason I bought a one way is because I am moving countries and it would be hard for me to use the return ticket at the moment without a long positioning flight.
