I’m Not Rich But I Have Been Everywhere – The Corporate Nomads

A Corporate Nomad, that sounds a bit like me. I hit the like button on Facebook, not knowing I would actually meet the inspiring guy behind the concept in Kuwait a few months later.

You are too busy building your future that you forget to appreciate the present.

As we wander through the old souq of Kuwait Reymond tells me the story behind his blog and he throws in some useful tips and tricks to travel dirt cheap!

If you think traveling is for rich people then you are wrong.

I am Reymond, a part time traveler and a full time employee. I maintain a travel blog called The Corporate Nomads which aims to inspire people to live their life in balance. Ok, I’m not a kind of person who liked the idea of quitting job to travel the world. You can manage both. I have always wanted to land a good job as well as to travel the world.

So now, I’m living the dream. I left home to see the world and working in Kuwait gave me a chance to visit 26 countries so far. Every year I take advantage of my paid leave and long weekends to travel. If you think traveling is for rich people then you are wrong. I’m not rich but I’ve been everywhere. As a budget traveler I always go cheap but not to compromise the best experience I get.

Travel healed me. Travel made me a better person than I was before.

Cheap flights? Remember a snail will eventually reach its destination.

Here’s how I book cheap flights:

  1. Consider flying on low-cost/budget airlines. Forget about the flag a carrier, what’s important is that you arrive in your destination. It pays to familiarize budget airlines in different region.
  2. Compare flights using search engines. Be patient. I know you’ll spend days to weeks comparing flights and identifying cheap day to fly out. I would recommend, Skyscanner (top choice), Kayak, Tripadvisor and Google flights.
  3. Long-haul flights are the cheapest. Yes, consider flying with multiple legs. When I traveled to New York it took me 24 hours to reach my destination but I got the chance to explore Cairo for 12 hours. It’s like hitting 2 countries in 1 journey. That was a smart choice and the airline was able to provide me hotel and meals. Remember, even a snail will eventually reach its destination.
  4. Do your own research. Traveling cheap is hard work.

Couch Surfing … Meet friends and live like a local.

With regards to accommodation, Couchsurfing is a lifesaver. If last minute hotel booking doesn’t work for you, looking for a couch to crash through couchsurfing website will save you. It will not just give you free stay (yes, free!) but instantly meet friends and live like a local. Europe as we all know is expensive to travel but believe me I spent almost nothing for the accommodation. Europeans are so kind that they open their doors to like-minded individuals and offer their hospitality. If you are still not convinced then check out their website at couchsurfing.com. Hostels are pretty cheap as well. It’s a good option if you are traveling solo. Hostels are full of international travelers for a lifelong friendship.

Travel is for everyone; it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor or what passport you are holding.

Travel is for everyone; it doesn’t matter if you are rich or poor or what passport you are holding. I was having mid-life crisis, I was broke, got depressed and was exhausted in life. Travel healed me. Travel made me a better person than I was before. You are too busy building your future that you forgot to appreciate the present.
Carpie Diem, Reymond.
