Congrats! Air Belgium is flying from Brussels South Charleroi Airport to Hong Kong and visa versa! Being a Belgian and just having moved from Dubai to Shanghai, this adds a new option for a trip “home” 🙂
Let’s have a look at the interesting history of this airline and the cheapest way to fly them in style!
Air Belgium’s code is KF
There are a couple of interesting things about Air Belgium. First of all the code name of the airline is still displayed on some flight search engines as Blue1 which was as a Finnish airline. The IATA code is KF. So if you start searching for flights between Brussels and Hong Kong and you see “Blue1” as logo or “KF” as airline code then you know it’s air Belgium.
The Airline had a Turbulent Start
Air Belgium had a turbulent start in April when they had to cancel flights due to obtaining a permission to fly over Russia. Ben from One Mile At A Time who wanted to review the flight back then will be happy to see that the birds of this new airline are finally up in the air!
The inaugural flight took of with just 15 people
It’s a bit weird but there were only 15 people on the inaugural flight. If I was the airline I would have contacted all major avgeeks on social media like Sam Chui, Bart Lapers, Zach Honig (The Points Guy), God Save The Points, Award Travel … well if there was a seat left, they could even have asked me 😀 My Philippine Airlines Business Class review only got 26.330 views on YouTube but still I would happy to be one of the first to fly Air Belgium.
More destinations in China might be coming!
Well that would be totally cool! If Air Belgium will start flying to Shanghai, which seems one of the logical next hubs, then I don’t even have to position to Hong Kong to give them a try them.
What is the cheapest way to book Air Belgium Business class?
Hold your horses, it’s not as cheap as flying Etihad First Class apartment for a few 100 USD as there is no miles program at the moment so there are no transfer options for points or partner miles. But the good new is that you can easily book Business class one way and return in economy. As expected in the funny airline business that’s cheaper than just booking Business class one way 😉
So the cheapest option is to fly Business Class from Brussels to Hong Kong and economy on the way back. Bookings can be done on the Air Belgium website.
Considering I recently paid around 700 USD for a 9 hour flight on Oman Air Business Class (which would have been 1000 USD for return in Business) this price is nothing really special but it’s the cheapest way to taste waffles and chocolate at 30.000 feet in style 🙂
I am very curious to try Air Belgium Business class to see what you get for the 1.198 EUR 🙂 Keep you all posted!
